Raised Flooring Systems
Used widely in commercial applications, raised flooring systems help reduce the cost and hassle of re-arranging an office space; a space that tends to be altered on a regular basis. These flooring systems elevate the finished floor through the use of cylinders or pedestals ranging in height from 2.5" up to 30". Raised floor systems allow for organized and efficient installation of communications, data, and power cables, and they are accessible so cables can easily be reached when changes are necessary. Some systems allow for the addition of an air seal strip so the under-floor system can be used as a forced air plenum that can easily adapt to changing register locations. The floor panels are typically made up of reinforced MDF or other engineered products, and range in lengths from 12" to 24".
Although generally reserved for the commercial sector, raised flooring systems are beginning to show promise in the residential building market. Several manufacturers are in the process of designing a product to meet the needs and capabilities of a home, rather than an office space.
Flooring systems currently available include Nexus and TecCrete from Haworth, Cablefloor from Flexspace, as well as other products from the manufacturers listed below.
