Luminous Wallpaper

Philips’ has teamed with Kvadrat Soft Cells to create a luminous textile for the consumer market. The product embeds adjustable LED’s in an acoustic panel to be hung on a wall providing ambient lighting for artwork. It may also be used as wallpaper to cover an entire room in soft tones of the consumer’s choice.

The acoustic panels will help to muffle sound and reduce echo in large rooms.  They may also be able to respond visually to sound, for example the ambient color of the room may be programmed to respond to music or other entertainment.  The panels could also provide primary lighting for an entire room, reducing the need for overhead lights and windows.

While there is no timetable for the product to hit the market, the company is looking at hotel chains and businesses for initial market penetration.
