Internet Based Modular Lighting Control System
Broadata has developed a Micro-Java Building Environment Controller (MJBEC), which offers significant energy savings by allowing building-wide system dimming and monitoring of energy use. MJBEC is a modular system consisting of ballasts and control units, capable of supporting thousands of lighting fixtures over the Internet. This technology can network over existing AC power lines and microcontroller integration with Java servlets. It is scalable, low cost, and allows for entensive re-wiring to be avoided, reducing capital expenditures and downtime associated with retrofitting. The technology is applicable to almost all commercial and residential buildings.
Broadata received a funding grant from the Department of Energy (DOE). Phase 1 resulted in a MJBEC model, which demonstrated its functionality. Phase 2 will develop an optimized MJBEC system for evaluation and testing in a commercial building.
An integrated building equipment communications system (IBECS) will provide Internet-based control of lighting, daylighting and envelope systems.
