Eco-Bricks
With a smooth texture and extensive earth-tone color pallete, CalStar’s Eco-Bricks look just like a traditional fired clay brick. However, by using 40% recycled fly ash and a process that doesn’t involve firing, these bricks are significantly better for the environment. Eco-bricks can help get a green building project on the right foot by having a close to net-zero energy from the start rather than creating almost a years worth of operating energy in the cladding process alone.
In a 100,000 unit project, these bricks can prevent over 170,000 pounds, or 85 tons, of landfilling, avoid 210 pounds of new raw material mining, and reduce CO2 emissions of over 80,000 pounds, or 40 tons. Further, by removing the firing process from the production of the bricks, they save over 500 million BTU’s of energy. The price of the product is similar to the price of traditional fired clay bricks. Numerous projects in large commercial buildings have taken place including medical centers, hotels, schools, and restaurants.
