Design Charrette Prepares House of the Future for Construction

On June 6, 2006 Newport convened experts in residential design, building systems, and construction at the Concept Home Design Charrette to progress the Concept Home design from a prototype to a one-of-a-kind demonstration to be built in Omaha later this year. Participants from the PATH program, Brighton Construction, Building Media Inc., Encompass Architecture, Lance Brown Architecture, Newport Partners LLC, Steven Winter Associates, and Torti Gallas and Partners all brought their respective expertise to the charrette. The event was hosted by Torti Gallas and Partners in Silver Spring, Maryland. The group of architects, builders, and technology experts was able to refine the prototype by adding design features, architectural elements, and building technologies that make sense for the site and the local market, and also showcase flexibility and efficient building techniques.
