Jay Crandell, P.E. (d/b/a ARES Consulting) has over 20 years of experience in building codes and standards development, innovative building technology research, construction, and design.
Mr. Crandell has conducted scientific studies of building performance in major natural disasters such as Hurricanes Andrew, Opal, Charley, and Katrina as well as the Northridge Earthquake. In addition, he has led major laboratory testing and field monitoring efforts to better understand and improve methods of building design and construction. His efforts have promoted building code innovations such as continuous sheathed wall bracing, Frost-Protected Shallow Foundations, cold-formed steel construction provisions, and insulating concrete form construction provisions.
Newport works with Mr. Crandell on projects that call for a combination of skills, such as the publication for HUD of Moisture Resistant Homes, and a current effort on improving anchoring systems for manufactured housing.
